PUSH-BACK PALLET RACKING
DESCRIPTION
Push-back pallet racking is a high-density storage system designed to optimize space while allowing for easy access to stored goods.
This system uses a series of nested carts that move along inclined rails within the racking structure.
When a pallet is loaded, it pushes the previous pallet back, allowing multiple pallets to be stored in a lane.
As pallets are removed, the remaining pallets move forward for easy retrieval.
ADVANTAGES OF PUSH-BACK PALLET RACKING
Maximizes Storage Density
- Push-back racking is ideal for storing multiple pallets deep in a single lane, utilizing fewer aisles and maximizing floor space. It can store between 2 to 6 pallets deep in each lane.
Efficient Use of Space
- The ability to store pallets multiple levels high and deep in a single bay significantly increases storage capacity without requiring additional warehouse space.
Increased Accessibility
- Though a high-density system, push-back racking allows for easy access to multiple SKUs within the same lane, making it an efficient system for warehouses handling multiple product lines.
LIFO Storage System
- Push-back racking operates on a Last-In, First-Out (LIFO) system, which is beneficial for products that do not require strict stock rotation, such as items with a long shelf life or less perishable goods.
Quick Loading and Unloading
- Forklift operators can quickly load or retrieve pallets from the front, reducing handling time and increasing efficiency in busy warehouse environments.
Reduces Forklift Travel Time
- Since forklifts only need access to the front of the rack, this system reduces travel time and the number of aisles needed, leading to improved operational efficiency.
APPLICATIONS OF PUSH-BACK PALLET RACKING
Push-back pallet racking is versatile and can be used in a variety of industries, especially where space optimization and easy access to multiple SKUs are important. Typical applications include:
Food and Beverage Industry
- Often used for storing non-perishable items or products with a longer shelf life, where LIFO stock rotation is acceptable.
Manufacturing Warehouses
- Suitable for storing finished goods or raw materials that need to be accessed quickly in high-demand environments.
Cold Storage and Freezers
Push-back racking works well in cold storage environments, where space is often limited, and quick access is critical. The reduced number of aisles means better use of available space.
